Essential Security Protocols to Protect Your Business

Published on May 15, 2025 | 2 min read | Webster Bank

As your trusted financial partner, we want to make you aware of a growing imposter scam targeting businesses. Imposter scams continue to rise, and criminals are becoming more sophisticated in how they pose as trusted individuals — including bank representatives, government officials, or security staff. Safeguarding your business accounts requires shared vigilance and the right tools.

Three Key Security Reminders:

Be cautious with security-related communications, especially those involving login credentials or verification codes. Here are three key security reminders you must know regarding secure communications:

  • Never share online passwords or bank-issued verification codes with anyone—even if the request appears to come from a trusted financial institution. Webster Bank, like all financial institutions, will never call, text, or email you asking for this type of sensitive information. If you receive such a request, it’s likely a scam.
  • Verify unexpected requests for payments, account changes, or sensitive information by contacting the requester through a trusted phone number or email, especially if the request is urgent or unusual.
  • Limit access to sensitive banking information to only essential team members, and regularly review user permissions to ensure former employees or unauthorized users are removed promptly.

Proactive Measures You Can Take:

Strengthening your internal controls can significantly reduce the risk of fraud. We recommend:

  • Multi-layer authentication for account access
  • Real-time fraud monitoring
  • Secure online and mobile banking platforms
  • Employee education on fraud awareness
  • Set up account alerts in Webster’s e-Treasury or Business Online Banking platforms to monitor transactions, balance changes, and suspicious activity in real time

If you suspect suspicious activity or receive an unusual request, contact your Webster Relationship Manager, or call our Customer Contact Center at 800-325-2424 immediately.
