How we prevent fraudulent transactions

Published on May 9, 2024 | Webster Bank

Webster Bank is committed to equipping you with information and support to safeguard your business and finances from fraud and scams.

How to help us protect you

To help ensure that you are promptly notified of any potential issues, as well as proactively mitigate any unintended “false alarms,” we recommend:

  • Making sure Webster Bank has your current phone numbers.
  • Notifying Webster proactively if you plan to make some large transactions that deviate from your normal spending activity.
  • Monitoring your accounts daily.

If you are called, stay vigilant

Understanding the systems that financial institutions like Webster Bank have put in place, some scammers are now using these systems to their advantage by impersonating fraud departments to trick you into disclosing sensitive information to help them access your account … and your money. Before you go any further on the call, remember these critical points to protect yourself from being manipulated by scammers posing as Webster Bank:

  • Don’t Trust Caller ID: Scammers can mimic (or “spoof”) legitimate phone numbers to make it appear that a call is coming from a trusted source.
  • Never, Ever Disclose Your Personal Information or Login Credentials: Typically, a scammer will ask you to verify sensitive details like your username, password, or security questions. REMEMBER: Webster Bank will never ask you for your password over the phone or via email.
  • Protect Your Authorization Codes: If you receive a one-time authorization code or account access request directly from your bank after you’ve requested it through the institution’s official channels, use only as directed and don’t share it with anyone – even if they claim to be from your bank. If you received the code unsolicited, disregard it and do not use, share, or engage with it. REMEMBER: Webster Bank may ask you to confirm an authorization code over the phone or via email.
  • When in Doubt, Hang Up and Call Us Directly: If you ever have any questions or concerns about the validity of one of these calls, please don’t hesitate to hang up and contact Webster Bank via our Help Center immediately at 800-325-2424 and we can help determine if they would have tried to reach you or not.
